Police make A500 arrest after reports of wanted man in Stoke-on-Trent

Police have arrested a man on the A500 after being called to reports that a wanted man was travelling in Stoke-on-Trent. Officers were dispatched to the dual carriageway at around 5.30pm yesterday after receiving reports that a wanted man from Leicester was travelling in the area. Officers from the National Crime Agency were seeking the man over firearms offences.

Staffordshire Police stopped a grey Mercedes estate on the southbound slip road. A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and remains in police custody. A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 17.30pm on Thursday (18 March) to the A500 in Stoke-on-Trent following reports of a wanted man from Leicester travelling in the area.

“Officers from the National Crime Agency were seeking the man over firearms offences. “Staffordshire Police stopped a grey Mercedes estate on the southbound slip road. “A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

He remains in police custody.”
