Police seal off Anfield after 'suspect item' reported to them

Police sealed off a section of a busy road near Anfield stadium following reports of a ‘suspect item’ in the area. Officers were called out to Walton Breck Road at around 10.45am this morning ( Sunday) following reports of a ‘suspect item’ nearby. The ECHO understands the ‘suspect item’ was near Anfield stadium but was not on Liverpool FC owned property.

Police at the scene quickly established that the report was ‘false’ although made with ‘good intent’. Merseytravel posted a comment on social media to say that bus services had been interrupted in the area due to a ‘police incident.’ The matter has now been dealt with and Walton Breck Road has -re-opened, police said.

Find out what is happening near you by adding your postcode below: A police spokesman said to the ECHO : “Police set up a temporary cordon in Anfield today (Sunday 28 March) following a false report a suspect item had been seen. “Officers were called at about 10.45am after the item was seen on Walton Breck Road.

“A cordon was put in place while enquiries were carried out, but it was quickly established that the report was false but made with good intent.

“The item did not pose any danger and the road was re-opened at 11.15am.

“We would like to thank members of the public who avoided the cordoned area while the incident was dealt with.”
