Ring launches security system for jobsites

Dive Brief:

  • A leader in home security technology is launching a platform to help keep construction sites safe.
  • Ring Jobsite Security utilizes the all-new Ring Alarm Pro, an alarm that, when paired with a Ring Protect Pro subscription, offers professional monitoring and cellular connectivity to keep connected devices, like security cameras, online.
  • The product is geared to solve two problems plaguing construction managers: The increasing incidents of theft from jobsites and the lack of internet service on many projects. Thefts of tools, lumber and other materials have been increasing on worksites across the country, according to local media reports.

With the addition of a Ring Protect Pro subscription, the system can use a cellular-only internet connection to keep connected cameras and sensors online — even if there is no internet service on the jobsite.

With Ring Power Packs, the Ring Alarm Pro will is designed to protect jobsites in the event of a power outage. Additionally, jobsite managers can monitor and receive real-time alerts via the Ring app. Ring Jobsite Security 5-Piece Plus Kit starts at £400.

The 5-piece kit includes:

  • Ring Smart Lighting Motion Sensor
  • Ring Jobsite Security Case

Media reports in recent months have highlighted the importance of construction site security. In St. George, Utah, last month, a construction firm owner called police to one of his jobsites in Washington City after a security system installed on the site showed thieves attempting to steal nearly £10,000 worth of equipment, according to St. George News. The police caught the suspects in the act and arrested them.

“Security of small to mid-sized jobsites is often overlooked, and Ring Jobsite Security directly addresses security issues contractors face,” said Jamie Siminoff, founder and chief inventor of Ring, in the release. “Now they can leverage the entire suite of Ring devices and services to create a personalized solution that works best for them.”
